Book Trade Policy

  • We only accept books Tuesday through Friday, but they may be dropped off on Saturday.
  • Drop your books off and we will notify you with an offer in one business day.  Books will be considered for trade if they meet the following criteria:
  •  Cover and pages must all be intact, no water damage, mold, mites or unusual odor.
  •  No torn pages, highlighting to text, stains, or excessive wear.
  •  We do not accept Harlequin’s, text books, Reader’s Digest, National Geographic,        
  •  library books, hardbacks without dustjackets (some exceptions), and encyclopedia’s.
  • Buy the Book accepts gently used books in most genres, preferably paperbacks.  We do not give more credit for hardbacks than paperbacks, and in some cases we give less.
  • Occassionally cash is offered for rare or current best-sellers.  Under some circumstances, cash may be offered for an estate sale or when relocating, etc.
  • Credit is valid toward other used books in the same genre’.  Fiction for fiction, non-fiction for non-fiction, and children’s books for children’s books; not any more specific.
  • Credit may only be redeemed half at a time.  For example, if you purchase a $10 book, you can use $5 of your store credit, and you pay the other half, plus sales tax.  If you have $20 of store credit, and purchase a $40 book, then you will use all of your store credit, and you still need to pay the other half, plus sales tax.
  • Credit is NOT valid towards collectibles, classics (unless traded classics), clearance, buy one get one free hardback special, audio books (unless traded audio books), and colored sticker items.
  • Credit is NOT good towards other merchandise such as mugs, shirts, tote bags, greeting cards, or food and drinks.
  • Credit may be shared or transferred.
  • Credit is good for 90 days.  Buy the Book will keep track of your store  credit. 
  • Buy the Book reserves the right to decline books.  Please do not take it personally.  We may simply be overstocked, the condition may not meet our standards, or we feel the book does not have appropriate resale value.  Purchasing from Buy the Book does not always guarantee we will accept it back on trade, however, we will do our best to work with the customers needs.
