Forensic Skullptor Artist, Saturday February 18 at 3pm
TamiMarshall : February 7, 2012 11:58 am : Book News, Coffee News, Store newsForensic facial reconstruction (or forensic facial approximation) is the process of recreating the face of an individual (whose identity is often not known) from their skeletal remains through an amalgamation of artistry, forensic science, anthropology, osteology, and anatomy. It is easily the most subjective—as well as one of the most controversial—techniques in the field of forensic anthropology. Despite this controversy, facial reconstruction has proved successful frequently enough that research and methodological developments continue to be advanced.
Peeked your curiosity yet? Buy the Book Coffeehouse has invited Forensic Facial Reconstruction Artist Brenda Robertson Stewart, Saturday February 18 at 3pm. Now you can learn all about this scientific process in a casual, relaxed atmosphere! And since Brenda considers this a public service, she presents this to our community for FREE!
Brenda grew up in Southern Indiana and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Indiana University. She has been a professional painter and sculptor for years. Not only is Brenda a Forensic Artist, she is also a writer! (All the more reason we like her!) Brenda has many published short stories in anthologies, including the most recent titled Bedlam at the Brickyard, (2010), which she also co-edited with Wanda Lou Willis. Brenda’s first novel, Power in the Blood, was published in 2004. Her second novel, Whiter Than Snow will be published soon. She is a member of Speed City Indiana Chapter of Sisters in Crime, and the Ohio River Valley Chapter of Sisters in Crime, as well.
No registration required, but arrive early as space is limited! And yes, we know our parking lot is small, but there are several places to park in the area, including 16th street. Please join us in welcoming Brenda to our area, while enjoying an interesting, educational afternoon!
Many times people have questions about a law related subject and would like to ask a police officer, but never seem to find the “right” time.
In an effort to reach out to the community, Lafayette Police Department and Buy the Book Coffeehouse has implemented a program called “Coffee with a Cop”. Officers will visit Buy the Book every third Wednesday of the month at 7pm to listen to comments or suggestions and to answer questions from the public.
While this program is not new in the field of law enforcement, it is new to LPD and the Lafayette area. By choosing a location in a relaxed atmosphere, officers hope to encourage positive interaction with the community and to be available to answer questions residents may have about law enforcement topics.
To get things started, Lt. Brad Bishop will be doing a presentation titled “Changes in Law Enforcement” Wednesday, February 15 at 7pm. The public is invited and encouraged to attend for questions, comments and conversation. No registration required.
(Oh, and if your worried about drinking coffee this late in the evening…we have plenty of decaf beans, herbal teas and smoothies!)
